3 Ways To Stay Motivated To Work Out

December 4, 2019 by Rachel Leave a Comment

If only losing weight and getting in shape was as simple as it sounds. However, the truth is that getting in shape requires a consistent commitment to showing up and doing the work.

As passionate and motivated as you may be initially to get fit, it can be challenging to keep the momentum going. There are days when you wake up and feel just plain “meh.” Over time, the “meh” days start to take over completely, and you forget that you ever wanted to start a workout program in the first place.

A few months or even years down the road, you find yourself in the same position of wanting to get in shape but unsure about how to stay inspired. So, what’s the secret to sticking to a workout routine?

According to personal trainers, there are the most important tactics for staying motivated to sweat.

Do a Workout You Love

If you dread the workout that you’ve chosen for yourself, then it’s no wonder why you don’t want to get out of bed and do it. Choose something that compliments your lifestyle and gets you excited to do!

For example, if you have a fear of being hit by a car on your bike, then riding your bike in traffic is probably not the best choice. However, if you’ve always loved dancing, then taking a group dance class can be a fantastic choice. Choose an activity that won’t result in you making excuses not to go.

Set a Specific Goal

It’s hard to stay motivated if you don’t have a measurable goal in mind. A lot of people’s lack of motivation comes from not seeing any progress from their hard work. This is a result of lacking specific goals.

Write down what your specific fitness goals are. Do you want to lose a certain amount of inches from your waist? Perhaps you’d like to run a mile much faster? Decide why you want to work out, and it will help you stay motivated to keep showing up until you reach your goal.

Find a Workout Buddy

Sometimes all we need is a little accountability. Looking to others for support is a great way to stay on top of your workout commitment. Find someone to stick to a fitness program with you. When you’re feeling low on motivation, they can pull you out the door, and vice versa.

When you feel like you’ve got a partner in your workout program whose watching whether you’re following through or not, you’re less likely to make excuses.

By putting these tips to use and making time in your calendar to commit to your goals, you can attain better health, increased energy, and higher self-esteem!
